Free, high-quality audio content has never been more in demand. More than 33 million unique listeners tune into internet radio each week, and that number continues to grow as audiences discover the vast selection of music, news and sports programming available online.

This posed a challenge for online broadcasters - how would they effectively support the growth of their online audiences? Consumers wanted free content, but broadcasters lacked the technology that would attract advertising dollars to support that demand.

TargetSpot, the ad technology and network designed specifically for online audio providers, was created to address this need. TargetSpot launched in 2007 under the leadership of CEO Doug Perlson, with founding partners and investors CBS Radio, Union Square Ventures, and Oddcast.

CBS Radio was first to bring its internet radio properties to TargetSpot, though it didn't take long for other groups to catch on to the value of TargetSpot's effective and simple solution for monetizing online audio. Just months after launch, TargetSpot's network grew to include more than 35 broadcast groups and web properties.

Key to the TargetSpot vision was the ability to make internet radio advertising affordable and accessible. An easy, self-service platform offers do-it-yourself advertising for smaller businesses, while TargetSpot's full-service account team supports the needs of large advertisers and agencies. In October of 2008, TargetSpot announced the acquisition of Ronning Lipset Radio, creating a singular force in internet radio advertising that serves more than 50 broadcast partners and 1000 internet radio stations.
